Close to Nelson Lakes and Kahurangi National Park and also Mauria Falls. The Willowbank Walkway is also close by and a short walk to the town centre with cafés.
For the more sedate person a visit to our wonderful museum steeped in history is a wonderful way to fill in a couple of hours! Enquire about the Old Ghost Road Trail for cycling and tramping.

The Old Ghost Road
A long-forgotten gold miners' road has been revived as a mountain biking and tramping trail – connecting the old dray road in the Lyell (Upper Buller Gorge) to the mighty Mokihinui River in the north. The 85km-long Old Ghost Road traverses majestic native forest, open tussock tops, river flats and forgotten valleys.
Murchison District Museum
A family friendly, interesting look into this small town's interesting past. The main focus is on the effects of the 1929 Murchison Earthquake. There are photographs and written accounts of the devastation throughout the district and the experiences of the local people of the time.
Murchison Golf Club
A pretty, relaxed 9 hole golf course next to the Buller River. Only 2km north of Murchison on the Kawatiri Murchison Highway, keep an eye out for the sign. This is a public golf course that welcomes guests. Drink in the beauty of Murchison while taking a few shots as you meander around this flat course.
